THE National Trust is looking for volunteers to join the team at one of the jewels in its Wiltshire Crown.

Stourhead and its gardens, near Mere, draw thousands of visitors from all over the world and the Palladian bridge, Pantheon, and Temple of Apollo have featured on screen in Pride and Prejudice, The Pursuit of Love and even a Miss Marple mystery.

On January 25 and 28 the Stourhead team will be offering a diverse range of opportunities for volunteers in recruitment events at Stourton Memorial Hall between 10am and 3.30pm.

Senior volunteering and community officer Chantelle Margetts said: “There is a huge range of volunteer roles at Stourhead that are integral to looking after this wonderful place.

"It’s a chance to meet new people and become part of a welcoming and passionate team, whether you’re out in the fresh air, submerged in history or a friendly face to welcome visitors.

“At Stourhead, our volunteers bring so much value and importance to what we do. From inspiring everyone who walks through our doors, to the significant conservation work. Together, we continue to look after and uphold the legacy of Stourhead for future generations,” she explained.

“Our flexible volunteering offers across a variety of roles makes sure volunteering fits seamlessly into everyday life, with the opportunity to be involved with fantastic teams, build on existing knowledge and learn new skills.”

Carly Williams, one of the volunteer gardeners, said: “It feels wonderful to know that I am part of a fabulous team who are all dedicated to looking after a place with such a rich garden history, whilst having some fun and laughter along the way - including lots of tea and cake.

"It feels great to be able to explain to visitors about the work we do and answer their questions about the garden. During the week I work full time as a customer services manager, so being able to volunteer on a weekend is ideal."
