Staff and pupils from Bishops Cannings Church Primary School have celebrated the opening of their new classroom.

Last Friday, the Rev William Lang, the local vicar, blessed the new classroom during the opening ceremony.

Funding came from Redrow, the developer of housing at the former Bureau West site, off Horton Road.

It has enabled the school to extend and provide a new room for Year 1 Hogglestock Hedgehogs class, toilets, a large cloak area and small group working area.

Headteacher Jonathan Barber said “Some parts of the school date back to 1907 and, as the school continues to grow and evolve, we needed a new classroom.

“The extension has brought the whole school together into one building.”

The classroom has the approval of pupils including Thomas, who said: “It is nice. We have lots of space to sit and we can play on the carpet.”

On Saturday, the school holds its summer fair and the theme is the Rio Carnival, to tie in with the World Cup.

A fancy dress parade, samba band and carnival mask workshops are among events scheduled. The fair starts at 2pm and entry is £1.
