WORK to tackle flooding at The Bottom in Urchfont is set to start later this year.

A number of homes in the street were threatened with flooding on several occasions during the excessive rainfall earlier this year.

The parish council said subsequent investigation found there were significant shortcomings in drainage design which puts The Bottom particularly at risk.

Wiltshire Council engineers are working on a re-design for the drainage system which will seek to reduce the amount of water coming off Salisbury Plain. Installation of an enlarged gulley in The Bottom and re-alignment of pipe work is also planned.

The parish council said funding has been secured for the work and it is hoped the work will start in September or October.
