PARK South is getting ready for the first ever Party In The Parks event, aimed at bringing the community together for a fun day and to celebrate the area.

From 11am to 6pm on September 12, visitors to Cavendish Square, in Whitbourne Avenue, can enjoy an afternoon of varying activities including a bouncy castle, side shows like china smash, splat the rat, stalls of arts, crafts and other wares, as well as a car boot sale offering a host of bargains.

There will also be stands hosted by Swindon Town Football in the Community, the children’s centre, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, New College and St John Ambulance.

Organiser Sam Rawlings, deputy project manager at Restore, said the event hoped to present the community in a good light after some bad press.

“I am looking forward to what should be an exciting event for the people of Parks," she said.

"It’s a great chance for the community to get together to promote and celebrate all that is good in Parks.

"Too often the area gets a bad press and hopefully this event will help to redress the balance.

"We really want the whole event to promote a sense of Parks and Proud."

The day sees a collaboration between community groups in Parks, including upcycle charity Restore, St John's Church and the Co-Op, which came together to organise the day which aims to promote and celebrate the area.

Ian Howard, project manager at Restore, said the organisation of the event was a clear sign of the community coming together.

“This is another example of Restore working closely with St John’s church and the local community," he said.

"We value those who visit our shop and it is a great way to give back to them as well as attract new customers.”
