A MORRIS Minor that trundled its way from one end of the country to the other all in the name of a good cause is now back home safely having completed its epic mission.

The 1963 Morris Minor was driven from John O’Groats to Land’s End, taking in each and every Morris Minor regional club along the way to mark the club’s 40th anniversary while raising money for Marie Curie.

Last week it made its 66th stop on its journey in Swindon when it pulled up alongside McArthurGlen Designer Outlet for a morning of fundraising having been driven from Nuffield Place in Henley-on-Thames by Rosie and Sandy Hamilton. They handed over the keys to the North Wiltshire branch of the club and Ash Holmes and Steve Chater then took the Minor on to its next top in Gloucester before it went on into Wales, back across the Severn Bridge and down through Somerset and Devon into Cornwall.

On Sunday the plucky Minor made its way to the furthest westerly point of mainland England, where it was showered with champagne as it pulled up at the famous signpost at Land’s End, marking the end of its meandering route across four countries – assisted by two ferry crossings.

Bruce Kelsey, the run organiser, said: “The car is now safely back in its 'home' garage in Lincoln after a further 350 trouble-free miles covered. What a car!

“The welcome at Land's End was truly memorable and it was really amazing that so many people from all over the country turned up to show their support.

“I want to thank everyone who got involved in the event - whether a branch co-ordinator, driver, co-driver, pick up driver or just a branch member who brought their cars to one of the stops to show their support. All of you are a great example of why this club is so good.”

Donations online have already topped more than £400, and the club members are still busy tallying up all of the money given to them along the route. Donations can still be made online to support Marie Cure at http://bit.ly/2dAhKir
