AFTER a nationwide search, Swindon-based retailer WHSmith has unveiled the UK’s Champion Child Gift Wrapper. With her indomitable style and cheeky smile, April Horscraft, aged nine, is set to become a wrapping superstar this festive season in a series of online tutorials that will help other little ones across the UK to not only master the basics but wrap their gifts with panache.

April was discovered following a contest run by the retailer on popular parenting website, Mumsnet, where budding wrappers aged between four and 12 years, were asked to submit video auditions with tutorials on how to wrap gifts. April stood out for her creative wrapping skills and fun personality, with judges commending her creativity and unrivalled enthusiasm.

As the Champion Child Gift Wrapper, April is now set to share her wrapping prowess, hints and tips with the nation. And as if that isn’t enough, she is also about to become the face of WHSmith’s Christmas wrapping campaign, starring on whsmith.co.uk/championwrapper, YouTube and Facebook.

Laura Wildish, Marketing Manager at WHSmith said: “When it came to choosing the winner, April really stood out for all of us. Her flare for detail and overall enthusiasm was fantastic. When it comes to wrapping, it’s the effort that counts. The simplest gift can feel like it’s worth a million pounds if someone has taken the time to wrap it in their own special way."

April’s mum, Kali Filsell added: “April has always been very creative and has always loved helping me to wrap gifts for birthdays and at Christmas. Her family and friends absolutely love her unique wrapping style. April jumped at the chance to enter and I’m so delighted for her that she won. She loved the day filming in London and has talked non-stop about it since.”

Celebrating Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 16th December, April’s video guide includes the careful wrapping of a festive jumper as well as a very special Christmas bear called Benji. Benji, along with his friend Bruno will be available in WHSmith stores this Christmas with the retailer donating £1 to Save the Children for every bear sold.
