Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following a serious collision that closed a section of the A36 near Codford for three hours on Christmas Eve.

At around 6pm a red Honda Deauville motorcycle being ridden towards Warminster from the Salisbury direction collided with a green Citroen Xsara being driven the opposite way, towards Salisbury, on the A36 close to Codford.

The motorcycle rider, a man in his 50s from Tunbridge Wells, Kent was taken to Salisbury District Hospital with serious leg injuries.

The driver of the Citroen, a 26-year-old man from the Street area, was unhurt.

The road was closed for three hours to allow officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team to complete an examination of the scene. Any witnesses to the collision or anyone with information is asked to contact PC Alan Hunt on 101 ext 720 3111.
