Plans for a new stadium to accommodate Melksham Football and Rugby Club have been formally submitted to Wiltshire Council.

It is hoped the facility at Woolmoore Farm, near Melk-sham Oak Community School, will provide a new home for the clubs as they move from Melksham House so construction can start on the town’s Community Campus.

If approved it will include a 1,773 sq m building containing separate changing, toilet, storage and social facilities for each club, each overlooking their main floodlit pitch.

The site will also include 10 football pitches of varying sizes, as well as a further three rugby pitches, which will be available for use by the community as well as both clubs’ youth and training teams.

Access will be provided from a junction off Thyme Road, which will have a 152-space car park, and two coach parking bays. Additional overflow space for 112 cars will be available to the south of the site via Melksham Oak Community School, which will also have pedestrian access.

The joint clubhouse building will include 208 covered seats, with each side having a balcony to overlook their pitch.

The building will be decorated in both club’s colours, with yellow and dark grey for the football club side, while the other side will be light and dark blue, to match the rugby club.

If the plans are approved by Wiltshire Council, work is expected to start in the spring, with both clubs hoping to move in by December 2014.
