The whole of the River Kennet is now on flood alert or flood warning but flood defences are managing to hold up.

However, some areas have been affected by ground water flooding including the Rope Works and Coopers Meadow, which has been blocked off and cannot be accessed by the public.

Val Compton, who lives in Kennet Place, said: “If the flood defences weren’t in place I think we would have flooded on Friday.

“This weather is unprecedented so you can never be sure that nothing will happen so I’m still making graphs and I have sandbags ready because if you live by a river you have to take precautions but this is the safest I’ve felt.

“There has been flooding because of ground water and I went over to Krumbz on Friday and Saturday to help mop out the water but it was dry and ready to open by 9am.”
