THE man arrested on suspicion of burglary at the One Stop Shop in Guildford Avenue on Thursday evening has been named as John Corcoran by police.

The 29-year-old from London has been formally charged with attempted burglary and remanded in custody to appear at magistrates’ court.

Corcoran was one of three men who were found attempting to break into the Lawn shop shortly before 11pm on Thursday night by PCSO Alex Pawlowski.

When PCSO Pawlowski disturbed the three men they ran from the scene and, after being joined by response officers and a dog handler, police caught and arrested Corcoran.

Insp Joe Saunders from the Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We patrol all areas, and specifically where the community raise issues with us.

“Alex has come across a crime occurring and has fortunately been able to prevent the break in.

“The response from other colleagues is also worthy of note and I appeal for anyone with information about this crime to contact us.”

A number of people have already come forward with information but anyone else who either witnessed the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at the time is asked to contact David Miller in the Local Crime Team at Swindon or the East Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101.

Alternatively people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
