Friends and family gathered on The Green in Marlborough on Saturday for the unveiling of a memorial bench for Vicky Philpott.

Mrs Philpott died of cancer aged 48 and the bench was unveiled by her daughters Mollie, 11, and Hattie, 10.

Mrs Philpott’s husband Ian said: “It was a difficult day because it was exactly a year since we had to say goodbye to her, but it was very comforting that so many people came out to remember Vic.

“It was a lovely sunny day which was a nice surprise. The day before had been grey like the last 50, so I didn’t know what to expect.”

Mrs Philpott was heavily involved with the local community through her work with Marlborough Carnival, the Friends of Savernake Hospital and Marlborough Penguins Swimming Club.

The town’s carnival committee funded the bench to mark Mrs Philpott’s contribution to the community.

Mr Philpott said: “It was a really thoughtful gesture. It is a special place because it looks onto her grandparent’s house, Harold and Sylvia Gray, who owed Ducks Toy Shop before her parents.”
