Church renovation handed £50,000 boost

A Melksham company renovating a near derelict church in the town centre is one of four firms in Wiltshire to receive a grant from the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

Procol Ltd received £50,000 towards renovating the 17th Century Kingsbury Hall into a serviced office centre.

Nick Denning a director of Procol, said: “We have been gifted some land at the back of the former church by the trustees who sold it to us and this money will help us to pay for an extension. The building had been empty for about seven years when we bought it so it is good to breathe new life into a building.”

Another firm to receive a Gateway for Growth grant of £50,000 was Power Logistic Services from Draycot Cerne, near Chippenham – part of Danny Boyle’s backroom team that made his spectacular London 2012 opening ceremony light up the night sky.

The grant will enable the company, which supplies temporary power and electrical services to the event and entertainment industry, to buy more generators and employ extra staff.

The Country Candle Company in Nursteed Road, Devizes, which manufactures and distributes candles and home fragrance products, also received £17,000 to spend on new technology and to develop an international sales plan, and 1st Choice Stairlifts of Calne £12,000 to install a new computer system.
