A school set up in Devizes in 1822 but not used as such for more than 100 years is back in use as an educational centre.

The former British School in Northgate Street, home to the Devizes Literary and Scientific Institute since 1906, is being used by the Devizes Kumon Maths and English Study Centre, run by Helen Wuscher.

She had run the centre from her home nearby in Northgate Street.

She said: “I needed more room so I approached the institute and they were delighted to accommodate me.

“My number of students, not just for maths tuition but for English too, has been growing for some time and finding these new premises has been a great relief.

“The fact that it was originally built as a school adds a certain historic relevance to the move.”
