FRIENDS and neighbours in Eastcott had a fun day in the sun at a specially organised street party.

The event was organised by the Eastcott Community Organisation and throughout the day there was live music, children’s entertainers, face painting as well as plenty of food provided by the locals themselves.

Caroline Davies-Khan, of the organisation, said: “I don’t think we could have asked for much more. The weather has been absolutely perfect and I am really pleased so many people have come along. Everyone has brought food along and Dominos Pizza have also given us 20 large pizzas for free so there is a really good spirit and I think everyone is having fun.”

Yesterday’s event was arranged under the banner of the Big Lunch, a scheme launched by the Eden Project to help bring the community together.

“The Big Lunch is a great idea but we were able to secure a council grant so we could bring in the entertainment and keep it free for everyone,” said Caroline.

“We have been running the Savernake Hall for just over a year now and officially took over at the start of May so this is a great way to celebrate.”
