Trowbridge Rugby Club skipper Matt Howard topped off an incredible season by marrying Amy Rush in a ceremony at The Guildhall in Bath on Saturday, with the reception held at Doric Park.

After leading his team to victory at Twickenham in the final of the RFU Intermediate Cup last month, Mr Howard married the love of his life after three-and-a-half years together.

The couple were joined by around 100 family and friends for the ceremony, including many members of the rugby team, with more joining them for the evening celebrations in a marquee on the pitch at Doric Park.

Before moving on to the reception, the couple and their wedding guests went to Parade Gardens in Bath for pictures, with Mr and Mrs Howard relieved the predicted showers failed to materialise.

Mr Howard, 27, who works for the MoD in Bristol, said: “It was absolutely perfect and we were really lucky with the weather. All week it said it was going to be raining, but other than a brief shower early on we had blue skies.

“I went for a drink to settle my nerves in All Bar One beforehand as I was expecting to be quite nervous, but I was actually quite relaxed.

“A lot of the boys were there either during the day or in the evening and it was good to catch up as we’ve had a bit of time off since the final, although they were all on their best behaviour.

“It has been a busy few weeks, but what a way to end it. Everyone had a really enjoyable time and it really couldn’t have gone any better.

“I had a running joke with Amy about her dress in the lead up, but she looked absolutely stunning.”

The couple, who recently moved into a house at the new Paxcroft Mead development, met at a rugby club event after being introduced by Mr Howard’s best man and Amy’s maid of honour.

Mrs Howard, 29, who works for the MoD in Corsham, said: “It was lovely and everything that we were hoping for.

“It was a really relaxed day and thankfully the weather was great.”

Mr and Mrs Howard set off from Gatwick for their two-week honeymoon in Riviera Maya, Mexico, on Monday.
