Duo combine to make a CD to help charities
MUSICAL duo Finkle and Sky released a new EP over the weekend to raise money for Macmillan and the British Heart Foundation.
Singer-songwriter Jacquie Sherlock teamed up with zumba instructor Becky Browning to create the CD, Everything.
It features music from Jacquie and lyrics for the eponymous track by Becky and was recorded over four days at Bentham Studio in Purton.
Jacquie, who also plays in local band Friday Feeling and released a solo album last year, decided to create the EP in order to support the two charities which affected her the most during her life.
The 34-year-old working mum was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia at the age of 17, a condition that caused heart palpitations and required her to have heart surgery at just 19.
She said: “The operation was successful but unfortunately I had some complications afterwards which although was not life-threatening did mean I had to change my lifestyle.
“I’ve done things for charity in the past and I just wanted to do something for the British Heart Foundation.
“A lot of people think that heart problems, heart attacks and that sort of thing just affect older people, but it doesn’t, it can affect young people as well.
“My auntie is also fighting cancer at the moment so I wanted to raise awareness of the work Macmillan nurses do. I think there is a lot of support for cancer research but the work of the nurses also needs support.
“Becky’s mother-in-law was also diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 52 and was given the all-clear at 57, so Macmillan is also very important to both of us.”
Jacquie was inspired to work with Becky on the EP after they teamed up for a performance at a zumba Christmas party.
She said: “Becky was holding a zumba Christmas party for her clients and she asked me if I wanted to get involved.
“We just worked really well together and had a lot of fun so I suggested we team up and do the EP.
“I asked her if she wanted to put some lyrics together for the main song and they were so beautiful.”
All the proceeds from the EP will be split equally between the British Heart Foundation and Macmillan.
