Accident shut A4 at Chippenham for four hours

The A4 was closed to traffic in both directions at the roundabout at Pewsham Way, Chippenham, for over for hours after an accident yesterday afternoon.

A male motorcyclist was taken to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, following a crash on the A4 from Chippenham to Calne at 2.55pm.

The crash involved the motorcyclist and five cars, a silver Yaris, a white convertible Mini, a green Vauxhall Vectra, a Honda Jazz and a Citroen DS3.

Police closed the A4 between the roundabout at Pewsham Way and the bottom of Derry Hill for over four hours, finally re-opening it just after 7.30pm.

The motorcyclist, who was riding a blue and white Yamaha R6, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police investigations are ongoing and any witnesses should call 101.
