THOSE in need of a little luxury can get pampered at a special event this month and raise money for charity at the same time.

On August 29 at the Moonrakers pub visitors can enjoy an evening of massage, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, hypnotherapy and other treatments as well as browse numerous stalls of jewellery, jams, chocolates and tarot readings to raise money for a pioneering new breast cancer treatment.

The Great Western Hospital’s Brighter Futures charity is hoping to raise £75,000 to fund a year’s worth of intra-operative radiotherapy treatment set to make a difference to around 150 women each year.

The treatment, which is administered directly to the tumour while the patient is still in the operating room, is reputed to cut recovery times.

Trish Toner, who has organised the pampering session, said: “It’s just such a fantastic new treatment and will help so many women, and it’s so nice to be able to support a cause that’s going to help local people and you can really see where the money is going.

“I’m so grateful too, everyone has been so generous with their time. Bev Neal the landlady at the Moonrakers has also been brilliant, as has Ros Burden.”

Entry to the pamper evening, which will run from 6pm to midnight and include a performance from Sister Sister, will cost £5, which includes a glass of bubbly.
