TICKETS are still available to people in need of a little luxury this weekend at a special pampering evening in aid of a new breast cancer treatment.

The Great Western Hospital’s Brighter Futures charity is hoping to raise £75,000 to fund a year’s worth of intra-operative radiotherapy, a pioneering new treatment for breast cancer set to make a difference to the lives of 150 women each year.

To help raise money for it, Trish Toner has arranged a pampering evening for tomorrow at the Moonrakers, Cricklade Road.

Trish said: “It’s just such a fantastic new treatment and will help so many women and you can really see where the money is going.

“I think a lot of the time you can raise a lot of money but you don’t really see where it all goes. With something like this you’ll really see it helping people.

“I think it’s a good cause because it is going to help women in Swindon itself and the surrounding areas. Maybe even one day the same treatment can be used to help stop other cancers too.

“It will also mean they won’t have to go to Oxford for the treatment. I think the last thing you need if you’ve been diagnosed with cancer is to have the added stress of having to go such a long way.”

The new intra-operative radiotherapy treatment works by zapping the cancer while the patient is still in the operating theatre, targeting the radiotherapy and reducing recovery time.

It also means women will not have to make the two-hour round trip to Oxford or Bath to have conventional radiotherapy treatment not available at the GWH.

At the pamper evening, visitors can enjoy massage, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, hypnotherapy and other treatments and browse stalls of jewellery, jams, chocolates and tarot readings.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes including a hamper of make-up from Boots, and a hamper of chocolates from Thorntons.

To be pampered from 6pm to midnight and include a performance from Sister Sister, will cost £5,including a glass of bubbly.
