Canadian comedian tells MARION SAUVEBOIS all about his really funny new stand-up comedy show

BACK on the road after a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival, Canadian comic Tom Stade will bring his new gem of a show, You’re Welcome, to the Wyvern tonight. So what is it about?

In Tom’s own words: “It’s comedy and it’s really funny and it’s a whole new show. People always ask that question and I’m always blown away by that. It’s stand-up comedy. I don’t do themes. I do funny.”

Tom’s agenda is simple: to make his audience laugh with his trademark rock ‘n’ roll attitude and copious amounts of charm.

Originally from British Columbia, Tom is now a full time resident of the UK. Like most things that have happened in his life so far the move happened by complete fluke, he arrived with no plan, and never left, “because things are way better here than they are in Canada”.

Bestowed with an easy-going nature and an appetite for adventure, Tom approaches life with a carefree and positive attitude, never looking too far ahead.

After a decade on UK shores, he now considers himself truly one of us. In the show, he explores his escalating Britishness, finding a rich source of material in the differences between the UK and his homeland, citing everything from crossing the road (jay-walking in his native Canada) to the daytime TV shows he has become so fascinated by.

As well as touring the nation’s theatres, Tom has appeared on Live at the Apollo, The John Bishop Show, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Dave’s One Night Stand. He recently co-wrote his own online sitcom with Daniel Sloss intriguingly entitled M.U.F.F.

Fans of previous shows will be pleased to hear that Tom continues to embrace his crazy and unconventional life - to hilarious effect.

With complete candour, he gleefully revels in his own shortcomings and inadequacies, playfully subverting his reckless image, and proving we’re all equally fallible.

Expect the customary Stade flair, uncompromising humour, insatiable mischief and heaps of inspired audience interaction.

Tom Stade will appear at the Wyvern tomorrow at 8pm. Tickets are £18. To book call 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
