YOUNG people have been carrying out random acts of kindness in Warminster this week during their annual Breakout volunteering event.

A team of 35 volunteers, young and old, arranged fun games in Warminster Town Park and Swaledale Road on Wednesday and tried to get as many passersby as possible involved in carrying out good deeds in the community.

Representatives from four churches in Warminster were involved including The Baptist Church, Christ Church, Foundation Christian Fellowship and the Minster Church.

Organiser and youth worker Chris Scorah said: “This is the fifth Breakout and it’s always a great event.

“It’s all about encouraging young people to do random acts of kindness and contribute to the community, whether it’s cutting someone’s grass for them or paying the elderly a visit in residential homes.

“On Wednesday there was a really good response from the kids and from local people who all wanted to get involved.

“We had about 30 young people and their parents so it was quite hectic but very good fun.

“We believe that God’s love comes for free, so we endeavour to demonstrate that love by giving it away freely.

“If the children are motivated to go to church as a result that’s great, but it isn’t our main goal,” Chris added.

The event ends with an extreme tree climbing challenge tomorrow night (Friday), when the Wiltshire Outdoor Learning team will bring along three climbing rigs to Christ Church on Weymouth Street.

There, they will challenge children to see who can climb the highest on the oak tree outside the building.
