DAVID Howell and the rest of the field at the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco are set to face a unique test in the world of golf over the next four days.

Swindon pro Howell goes into the competition at Golf du Palais Royal with good memories, having finished eighth last year at a course he enjoys playing.

The tricky greens make it both a difficult and popular challenge for the European Tour stars and Howell is looking forward to getting started.

“I played well last year and had a really nice final day to finish eighth so it’s one I go into with good memories,” he said.

“It was a good week in amongst a good run of events for me last year and I think everyone looks forward to this event.

“It’s a great course with a few different challenges to the ones we usually face, especially around the greens where it’s pretty unique which means you have to be pretty precise with your second shots.

“I’m not sure it’s one that suits me but I always look forward to this one and I fancy my chances as much as anyone would.

“The greens are raised and have a lot of run-off area, with the greens pretty much half the size they seem because if you land on parts of them the ball will just roll off.

“The targets are really small and you have to be really precise with what you do, although the fairways are pretty generous. If you miss them you are in trouble though.

“Hopefully my experience can kick in and do me well.”

Howell made a late arrival at his last tournament in South Africa as he made a quick dash to see his chiropractor in London to work on some long stand back issues, but the Broome Manor man is in good health this week.

“It’s feeling good and everything he’s doing seems to be working,” he said.

“I’ve got no excuses on the body front.”

Howell begins his campaign at 8.30am UK time tomorrow morning alongside Robert Rock and Marc Warren.
