CHRIS Watson claimed victory at Cirencester’s Seniors Open, which attracted 130 competitors.
Host club member Watson scored 40 points but ultimately had a 45-foot putt on the par five 17th to thank for his success which was won on countback.
Fellow Cirencester member David Golding also scored 40 points but it was Watson’s superb back nine which proved the difference and secured him the Eric Cole Bowl.
Golding was left to rue a poor 16th hole but had the small comfort of winning the division two title ahead of Upavon’s Dave Cummings who scored 39 points and another host player, John Anderson who scored 38.
John Hall took the honours in Division One, who put his recent ordinary form aside to score 39 points.
Ogbourne Downs’ Ian Hall was second in Division One with 38 points while Ciren’s Tony Jafrate was third with 37.
The winner of the trophy for the over 75s’ veterans trophy was Cirencester’s Stephano Episcopo with his commendable 37 points.
Ciren’s recent match at Burford finished all square.
John Pugh and Andy Leith, John Morris and John Cross secured wins for Ciren while Clive Bennett and Mike Bishop plus Gordon Stone and John Parsons secured half points.
