EIGHT Warminster-based soldiers accused of smuggling guns out of Iraq to trade for drugs and cash have been named.

Judge Advocate Colin Burn had imposed an interim banning order earlier this month, meaning the soldiers names and addresses could not be published, but today the order was overturned on eight of the nine soldiers charged, at the military court in Colchester, Essex.

The accused soldiers are all with the 3rd Battalion of The Yorkshire Regiment (The Duke of Wellington Regiment) based at Battlesbury Barracks.

The ninth soldier cannot be identified until a Ministry of Defence inquiry into threats made to his personal security and that of his family has been completed.

But the lifting of the order only allows the names of the soldiers to be released.

The accused soldiers are; Lance Corporal Michael White, Lance Corporal Anthony Creswick, Corporal Darren Clemmie, Lance Corporal Ross Phillips, Lance Corporal Ben Whitfield, Lance Corporal Brent Campbell, Private Shane Pleasant and Private Robert Marlow.
