STONEHENGE could miss out on making the final seven in a bid to find the new wonders of the world.

The New7Wonders Campaign has moved onto the Americas, the last stage of a tour covering all 21 finalists.

From Wednesday for seven days, the campaign's website is showing the front-runners, with Stonehenge only ranked in the 8-14 section.

The top seven includes the Pyramids of Giza, the Jordanian city of Petra, the Statues of Easter Island and the Taj Mahal.

People from all over the world have been voting for their favourites.

The final seven will be announced in Lisbon, Portugal, on July 7.

The tour will now visit the shortlisted sites in Latin America before concluding at the Statue of Liberty in New York next month.

  • Archaeologists have unearthed remains of an ancient settlement that could have housed hundreds of workers involved in the construction of Stonehenge. The find was made at Durrington Walls, where a massive timber circle once stood.
