A RACIST comment posted on the Wiltshire Times website has been traced to an American company.
The comment was made on March 28 on a story about graffiti on a sign leading into Trowbridge.
It was written in Nazi-orientated rhetoric and was offensive about Polish people.
Although it purported to be written by someone in Corsham a police investigation found the actual writer had links with an American company.
Inspector Dave Cullop, of Trowbridge police, said: "We've used our high-tech unit and traced the IP (internet protocol) address to a French internet café.
"We then found an email linking it with a company in the USA.
"Because of the current international agreements and protocols we are unable to get further information.
"The investigation proves it wasn't a person who was in the UK at the time and unless it was someone on holiday or with connections with a US company, it's quite likely the person is not living in the UK and has nothing to do with the Trowbridge area."
