Following the sudden death of Sgt Richard Fuller near Calne yesterday, Wiltshire Police have released a statement.
"I can confirm that an investigation is taking place into the sudden death of Sgt Richard Fuller.
"Dick, as he was known, was a highly regarded member of the force.
"Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time," said Chief Constable Andy Marsh.
The statement continued: "A post mortem exam will be arranged to ascertain the cause of Sgt Fuller's death and an inquest is expected to be opened today.
"In January 1997 Sgt Fuller took over duties as head of security for the Duchess of Cornwall's private home.
"Whilst he had day to day contact with the Duchess' staff, his contact with the Duchess was intermittent.
"Dick was first posted to the firearms unit in 1990 and he was an acknowledged police firearms specialist."
Police Sergeant Richard Fuller, 55, was married with three grown-up children.
