Drugs arrest in Chippenham

A forty-year old man was arrested in Kington St Michael this morning after police executed a drugs warrant at his home.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession and cultivation of a controlled drug and suspicion of money laundering and is currently in custody at Melksham Police Station pending further investigations.

Today's operation, involving officers from Corsham and Chippenham, followed weeks of intelligence gathering by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

Officers spent several hours searching the house in Kington St Michael, along with a team of Crime Scene Investigators. An amount of cash was seized and a large number of items were taken from the premises for further examination.

PC Heather Barham, Community Beat Manager for Chippenham Rural North Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "We are pleased with the results of this operation and with the co-operation we have received from the local community.

"During the execution of our day-to-day duties we have built up a relationship of trust with local residents. This has aided us substantially in the gathering of the intelligence necessary to tackle drug offences by mounting operations such as this."

Sector Inspector Gavin Williams added: "This kind of positive Neighbourhood Policing Team action demonstrates our determination to work in partnership with local communities to remove the dangers that drugs present.

"We want to reassure the public that our Neighbourhood Policing Teams will act on any information received to target this type of illegal activity.

"I would ask anyone who has any information which could help us bring drug offenders to justice to call Wiltshire Police on 0845 4087000, or if they prefer to leave information anonymously they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

Always good news when a dealer is caught lets just hope this leads to more arrests of local dealers and the reduction in the current drugs menace that is sweeping the area and inflicting itself on our young

Not likely these people know whats good for them far better to keep quiet.Sadly he will likely get longer for money laundering than the drugs offences because laundering brings in things like fraud and tax evasion and we all know the tax man doesnt like being cheated out of his pound of flesh.

In some ways it dosent matter what they get dealers fro if he gets longer for laundering thats fine as long as he gets banged up and is not able to committ his crimes for a while

So, who is this 'Tax Man'? Is it the person who actually collects the money for us? some relatively low-paid civil servant? Or is the phrase just a lazy, sub-Daily Mail cliche?

Don, I think he means HMRC but does it matter what we call them? Call them G-Men if you want who cares about semantics. The point remains the same whether cliched or not. Cliches exist for a reason after all.
