House torched and throat slit

WILTSHIRE fire brigade were called into action in the early hours of this morning when a house was set on fire.

The bungalow in Hawkeridge, near Westbury, was daubed with white paint before being set on fire shortly before 5am, police believe.

When the fire brigade arrived, the building was engulfed in flames and eight Wiltshire fire vehicles arrived on the scene to tackle the blaze.

Police officers made swift enquiries and a local 69-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fire. It is being treated as arson.

The drama did not end there though as the man was then taken to hospital by ambulance after injuries he inflicted to his neck and throat.

He remains in Royal United Hospital in Bath, where he is being treated for his wounds.

The man was already on police bail when the incidents occured today having been previously arrested on March 26 in connection with an assault.
