Honours shared in Conigre derby

Melksham Town 1, Devizes Town 1

MELKSHAM Town and Devizes Town had to settle for a point each after they drew 1-1 in the Toolstation League Premier Division at The Conigre on Monday.

Melksham took the lead 10 minutes before the break through Dave Percival, but Darren Robison equalised from the penalty spot in the second half after Adam Giles was fouled.

Devizes Town boss Steve Hale said it was not a great game for the spectators.

Hale said: "I wouldn't have paid to get in to watch it, it was hardly going to bring the crowds back to local football.

"I think it was a game of missed chances for both sides. A draw was a fair result."

Hale was not happy with the performance of the referee.

Hale said: "They should have had a man sent off in injury time. He brought down Adam Giles and he knew what he was doing, unfortunately it was just outside the box.

"What was laughable was that part way through the second half I complained about a throw-in being taken in the wrong place, and the referee said to me he accepted he was being inconsistent."

Melksham boss Kelvin Highmore said: "Derby matches are never great games and I don't think either side did themselves justice."

"We had our chances early on and we had two stonewall penalties turned down, but the longer the game went on, Devizes were stronger than us.

"I think some of my lads were still on the dance floor in Newquay."
