Superheroes invade Hunts Copse!

SUPERMARINE ended their Southern League Premier Division home campaign with a goalless draw against Merthyr Tydfil at Hunts Copse.

The bobbly pitch and windy conditions made passing the ball difficult, and so it proved as chances for either side were few and far between.

The real entertainment came off the pitch, as Merthyr's travelling fans provided a carnival atmosphere with an array of superhero outfits.

Superman, Batman, Spiderman and even Bananaman all made an appearance as the supporters were determined to enjoy their afternoon in Swindon, despite the lack of quality on the pitch.

Elsewhere in the Southern Premier League, relegated Cirencester Town gave their fans something to shout about with a 2-1 win over Bromsgrove Rovers at the Corinium Stadium.

Matt Taylor put the hosts ahead but Joesef Jakob looked to have secured a point for Rovers with his 85th minute equaliser.

That was until Michael Jackson popped up in the 89th minute to give Ciren all three points and a first win in 15 matches.

Fairford Town will have to rely on ground grading to save their Hellenic League Premier Division status after today's 2-2 draw at home to Abingdon finally sealed their fate.

John Paget's side are 12 points from saftey with just three matches remaining, but could get a reprieve if teams coming up from Division One West fail to pass the required standard for facilities.

Shrivenham's terrfic end-of-season run hit the buffers at home to lowly Carterton, who took all three points with a 2-1 win at the Rec.

There were goals galore in One West, Wootton Bassett Town putting three past Banbury United Reserves without reply.

Malmesbury Vics won an excellent point after a 2-2 draw at Cheltenham Saracens, while Cricklade and Tytherington Rocks shared the points after also scoring two goals apiece.

Chris Pethick's Purton went down 3-2 at Winterbourne United.
