Now triathlete Lidbury plans to conquer the world!

EMMA-KATE Lidbury is "going for gold" at the World Triathlon Championships after storming to victory to take the European crown in Portugal at the weekend.

The former Swindon Advertiser reporter produced a career best performance in Lisbon to beat her nearest rival in the 25-29 years age group by almost 10 minutes in a stunning display of speed and endurance.

Lidbury's time of 2:14:55 for the Olympic distance swim-bike-run course also saw her crowned overall women's champion - making her the fastest female amateur triathlete in Europe.

After blitzing her rivals on the continent, the 28-year-old has now set her sights on the World Championships in Vancouver next month.

After finishing third in Hamburg in 2007, Lidbury is determined to hop two places up the podium and bring back the gold for Britain.

She said: "I would be lying if I told you I wasn't thinking about Vancouver already.

"Having won bronze last year it is a natural progression to be aiming for the gold medal.

"But as long as I cross that finish line knowing that I could not have given any more, then I will be happy."
