This exhibition, opening at Wiltshire Heritage Museum (the Museum) on 19 February 2012, is a collaboration between the Trowbridge and District Metal Detecting Club (TMDC), the Museum and the Wiltshire Finds Liaison Officer. It will feature items discovered by the TMDC, explore the hobby of metal detecting and show how these finds help archaeologists learn more about our past. The close co-operation of metal detectorists and Finds Liaison Officers has enabled museums to purchase important archaeological artefacts and treasure items, ensuring such items can be seen by a wider public and studied by archaeologists. The Museum has been fortunate to acquire many such items and on display for the first time during the exhibition will be an Anglo-Saxon gold pommel found near Cricklade by a Wiltshire metal detectorist recently purchased by the Museum. More Info: About the event please see the Trowbridge & District Metal Detecting Club website.
