During a hectic jazz festival my sister and I took a break from the music and enjoyed a bit to eat at The Marlborough Delicatessen.

There was plenty to choose from on the menu, and also some tasty samples on the counter to whet our appetites including stuffed olives and parsnip crisps.

I went for the goats’ cheese sandwich with caramelised onion and salad while Sarah opted for a salmon sandwich on wholemeal bread.

The deli only offers outside seating with just three tables but luckily for us one was free so we took a seat.

At first it was rather pleasant to watch people running from each jazz venue to the next but we should have taken more notice of the grey clouds approaching because it wasn’t long until the storm hit. Luckily there is a bit of covering over the seated area so our sandwiches didn’t get too soggy.

The ciabatta was not to stodgy and the creamy goat’s cheese was nicely accompanied by the caramelised onion. Sarah liked her sandwich but thought the salmon was a bit chewy.

Despite the sandwiches being so filling, after seeing the desserts on display we couldn’t help but treat ourselves.

I opted for tiffin while Sarah went for the brownie. The tiffin was really rich and delicious and definitely something I’ll be going back for.

Sarah raved about the brownie but after having a bite of mine she did have pangs of food envy.
