Homely comfort food is how I would describe the offerings of LA Diner in Melksham.
The American-themed restaurant was opened by Alper and Leanne Kapan in September 2013.
Eighteen months later it is still proving to be popular, as nearly all the tables were taken when I arrived last Thursday lunchtime, but the cafe is not huge.
I was not greeted by anyone when I walked in, and having never eaten there before I found myself in the awkward situation of not knowing whether to just sit at any table, go up and order or wait for a waiter.
So I sat down and looked at the menu and decided on the hot chicken wrap (£5) and a tea (£1.20). A reasonably friendly waitress took my order and I sat back and took in the relaxed atmosphere, noted the good choice on the menu and felt mild regret that the decor lacked more of a retro diner vibe.
The chicken wrap hit the spot; generously sized and garnished with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise, it was tasty and moist.
The prices are reasonable and I think LA Diner is a great pit-stop, with something for everyone. But take note of the cash-only sign and don’t try paying by card.
