ACTRESS turned publican Emily Robinson puts on a good show at the traditional Wiltshire pub The Bridge Inn at West Lavington.

Food is an important part of keeping most pubs afloat these days and The Bridge is lucky to have a busy roadside location to attract passing trade but also a large beer garden tucked away at the back ideal for a lazy summer lunch.

The same menu is available all day with the exception of sandwiches added to the lunch fayre.

I visited with my daughter on one of the many recent warm, sunny days and we did a bit of a mix and match from the light bites and the starter menu.

Francesca ordered whitebait with tartar sauce at £5.50 while I went for the fish goujons at £6.50. I was expecting small fingers of fish in breadcrumbs or batter but instead I got one beautifully cooked piece of cod, that was white and succulent, and was served with a small portion of fries and pea puree.

It wasn't what I anticipated but it was lovely. My daughter also liked the freshness and crispiness of her more conventional whitebait.

For those who enjoy a sandwich at lunchtime there is a good a good choice including roast beef with horseradish and crayfish cocktail. They are all served in local honey spelt bread with a salad garnish and cost £7.50.

Other options include a homemade burger for £12.50 or pie of the day with mash for £12.95.

A nice touch on the website is an offer by landlady Ms Robinson, who is also the chef, is to try and do what she can to meet any needs not met on the menu.

The pub serves food from Tuesday to Saturday from 12.30pm to 2.30pm and from 6.30pm to 9pm and on a Sunday from noon to 3pm.
