POPPING out of the office to find the sun was unexpectedly warm and pleasant, I thought I'd treat myself to a takeaway lunch and a sit in our beautiful park.

Where to go - the town has plenty of choice of sandwich bars and coffee shops, but Beez Kneez sandwich bar was handy, so I dropped in.

It's easy to overlook this little gem, tucked away as it is just inside the precinct. It has a couple of stools and a lunch counter inside, as well as two tables outside which always seem to be occupied by people waiting for buses and drivers on rest breaks, but mostly its trade is with the takeaway market, office and shop workers wanting to get lunch on the go.

There's a huge choice of fillings for sandwiches or baguettes, and they also do salad boxes, filled jacket potatoes and paninis.

I know I should have been good and had a salad, but somehow my eye got drawn to the baguettes, and before I knew it I'd fallen for the temptation of a coronation chicken filling - though I did have salad on it, too.

A bottle of chilled Fentimans rose lemonade (try it, it really does taste as well as smell of roses) and a hunk of caramel flapjack completed my lunch.

The staff here are really friendly and checked to make sure I'd got everything I wanted in my salad, providing paper napkins and wrapping my meal carefully in thick white paper.

It was as well they remembered the napkins, as my baguette had been so generously filled with delicious chicken and curried mayonnaise that it really was hard to eat tidily. Luckily I didn't have to share my park bench with anyone else so I could lick my fingers in decent privacy.

My lunch came to a very reasonable £5.95 - and the sunshine was free
