WHEN searching for somewhere to eat I often, like many others, turn to TripAdvisor as a useful source of information.

After doing a quick search, a few weeks back the number one restaurant in the Warminster area, according to the review website is The Royal Oak in Corsley, so after checking the pub’s website I booked a table for two for a Saturday night.

After an enjoyable evening, visiting the Warminster Carnival, we made the 10-minute drive over to the small village of Corsley to see if this country pub could live up to its ranking.

Having ordered our drinks at the bar, we had a short wait for our table before being shown through to the stables area which had a warm and welcoming feel.

The staff, with faces painted to celebrate Hallowe'en, were friendly and took our orders in a nice timely manner.

We shared a garlic bread (£2.50) to start which arrived quickly and tasted good before the arrival of my fish and chips (£8.95) and Sarah’s ham, egg and chips (£10.95).

The chips were of high quality, as was the fish in crispy batter while there was plenty of thickly cut ham on Sarah’s plate. We were both more than happy to completely clear our plates.

To finish Sarah ordered a passion fruit creme brulee (£4.95) which had a strong passion fruit flavour, while I had the vanilla cheesecake.

We paid the £38.90 bill at the bar, certainly more than reasonable for the amount of food we received, and left extremely full, having thoroughly enjoyed all our food.

It certainly looks like it will take something special in the Warminster area to knock this lovely country pub off its clearly well-deserved TripAdvisor top spot.
