The Queensfield, Upper Stratton, Swindon SN2 7SY Tel: 01793 722978 OPENING HOURS: Mondays to Saturdays, 11am to midnight; Sundays 11am to 11pm.
WHAT DO THEY SERVE?: A rotating roster of real ales currently features Courage Best, Bass and Banks’s, all at £2.65 a pint. Carling lager costs £2.90 a pint, an individual bottle of wine £2.50, and spirits start at £2 a measure.
WHO DRINKS THERE?: Following a period of closure, the pub was recently taken over by new hosts John and Mandy Doyle. They have set about turning it into a happy, family-oriented community hub. John said: “We have a lot of local people here, young and old. It’s not the sort of pub that belongs to any one group. We’re particularly family orientated at weekends, and our beer garden and play area are very popular.”
FOOD: The pub offers crisps and nuts, as well as rolls, pies and sausage rolls. The possibility of opening the kitchen and offering a more extensive menu is being considered.
SPECIAL EVENTS: On Easter Monday, April 13, the pub will host an Easter festival in aid of the Prospect Hospice, complete with a hog roast, trampolines and a bouncy castle. The festival will run from 11am until 5pm in the car park and then move indoors for karaoke and other entertainment. The pub offers darts, crib and pool and has its own football team. Various special events, including quiz nights and music, are currently being planned.
CHILD POLICY: Families are welcomed.
DISABLED ACCESS: There is full disabled access.
PARKING: The pub has a large car park.
