Not able to face the thought of a Friday night in front of the box, hubby Trev and I set off to Bradford on Avon in search of some culinary diversions.

Having been turned away from an Italian restaurant we'd heard mention of, we decided to try out an evening meal at the Dandy Lion pub.

We ate there many months ago, but that was in the bar area and before the whole venue had undergone refurbishment.

On arrival we made our way to the restaurant upstairs and were immediately struck by the lovely decor and spacious seating.

Copious amounts of waxed and polished wooden floors, beams and balustrades looked lustrous in the candelight, as I wondered if anyone would notice if I went home with the fantastic shabby chic chandelier overhanging the stairwell.

We ordered a coke and a glass of riesling and sat back to relax in our peaceful surroundings as the buzz of bar conversation drifted up the stairs.

Expecting great things, Trev tucked into a gorgeous mound of deep fried brie with pepper salsa, which he said was fabulous, while I finished off a bowl of perfectly pleasant but forgettable, tomato and basil soup.

Moving on, Trev was delighted with his delicious scallop and prawn kebabs with rice and salad - until he saw what I'd ordered!

My lamb rump in sunblush tomato and herb butter with dauphinoise potatoes was as amazing as it sounds with a generous amount of meat and enough rich sauce and cream to make me feel wickedly indulgent.

We rounded off our meal with raspberry and white chocolate cheese cake and chocolate fudge cake.

The only downside was the slightly slow service, but the staff were so friendly we could forgive them anything.

And with the whole meal, including a second round of drinks, coming to only £53, we'll definitely be going back.
