Kemble Air Day 2007

Graham Carter gets a real lift checking out the variety of planes both on show and in the skies at the 11th Kemble Air Day taking off this Sunday.

PLANE crazy dads and their families are set for a great day out at the Kemble Air Day on Sunday.

The 11th annual event coincides with Father's Day - but the organisers say it's not just Dad who should be making a beeline for the Gloucestershire airport.

For aviation enthusiasts, Kemble is now firmly established as one of the top events in the calendar, and is renowned for its relaxed atmosphere and "idyllic surroundings".

"Kemble Air Day has developed over the last decade into a major air show, which still manages to retain its personal feel," said organiser Glen Moreman.

"The public are able to get close and really feel part of the action."

In what is being billed as the biggest show ever seen at Kemble, The Red Arrows return to their former base for a display of aerobatics.

The theme of the show is The Century of Frank Whittle' and 70 Years of British Jet Aviation', so expect plenty of modern jets.

Not that fans of planes from an older generation will be disappointed.

A string of classic machines will be appearing on Sunday, including the Gloster Meteor, the Harrier, the Gnat and the darling of them all, the Spitfire.

Not all the action is in the air.

On the ground will be static aircraft, military and vintage vehicles, exhibitions, more than 50 trade stands, crafts and a fun fair - which all adds up to a great day for all the family, not just Dad.
