A Swindon operatic society is looking for two tenors and a baritone to join its latest production.

The Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society has just held auditions, but failed to find suitable singers for two leading roles and a minor part.

Following last year's success of HMS Pinefore the society is now tackling The Gondoliers and is in need of a Marco, who is a humble gondolier who may be the real King of Barataria! He has some beautiful songs, such as Take A Pair of Sparkling Eyes, and he is on stage for much of the show.

Julia Fryer from the Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society said: "The smaller tenor role up for grabs is Luiz, servant to a duke. He comes on near the beginning of the show and sings a couple of duets then doesn't appear again until the end when he reveals that he is the real king. The baritone role is Don Alhambra del Bolero, who is a member of the Spanish inquisition. Scheming, evil, but comic. He is on and off stage all the time. Rehearsals start on January 7, 2014.''

The Swindon society will be performing at the Arts Centre in Devizes Road, Old Town from June 3 to June 7 and rehearsals will take place in the Wroughton Workingmen’s Club on Tuesday evenings.

Anyone interested should contact the society either by visiting www.swindongilbertandsullivan.weebly.com or by phoning 01793 337906.
