Jimi Hendrix look-a-like and sound a-like, John Campbell, is bringing his band Are You Experienced? to Swindon.

Keep one hand on the fire extinguishers as the finale of their explosion of Hendrix bombast is the glorious act of guitar-burning.

The band are named after the debut album by the English-American rock band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, which was released in 1967.

The tribute band was formed 14 years ago to play the songs they are passionate about, and John is joined in the rock trio by Kevin O’Grady on drums and Mark Arnold on bass guitar.

John’s aim is, not only to keep Hendrix music alive, but to introduce his work to a new generation. He said: “I get a real buzz out of watching the crowd when we are playing and I like to think that I am doing my bit to introduce Jimi’s music to a new and eager audience.’’

John recreates all the Hendrix’ tricks such as playing behind his head or with his teeth to give the complete live gig experience. They play classic hits such as All Along The Watchtower, Voodoo Chile, Foxy Lady, alongside lesser known tracks such as Freedom, Dolly Dagger and Manic Depression.

Are You Experienced? will be coming to The Vic in Old Town on Saturday, January 18, from 8.30pm. They will be supported by Fry’s Cream, who perform the music of 1960s supergroup Cream that featured Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker.

Tickets to an electric ladyland of rock are £6 in advance and £8 on the door. For more details call 01793 535713. - Flicky Harrison
