THE Southgate Inn continues to champion live music with another exciting gig on Saturday as, following the success of the recent jazz gig featuring some of the top musicians in the business, pub landlords Sarah and Ian Wixon have managed to book Bristol jazz folk fusion duo 38 String Weave, featuring renowned violinist Gina Griffin and Celtic harp player Vicki Burke.

The duo, who have delighted Devizes crowds in previous appearances with bands including K-Passa and Flash Harry, are in the midst of a series of concerts with the show at the town pub following straight on from a sell-out appearance in Frome.

Vicki Burke is well known as the saxophone player and vocalist with Flash Harry and Doreen Doreen.

Classically trained on the clarinet she soon switched to the “cooler” sounds of jazz and rock with the saxophone.

After 20 years of travelling the world and establishing herself as a respected and versatile musician Vicki took up the harp.

Songwriting has become her more recent passion and her broad love of many styles, adding folk, world and blues to her musical pot has given her a unique sound. The Phil Beer Band, Ninja Tunes’ Up, Bustle & Out, Doreen Doreen and Flash Harry are just some of the bands that have featured in Vicki’s musical journey.

Fiddler and singer Gina Griffin has been performing her unique and eclectic style of music for many years.

Like Vicki she was classically trained but immersed herself in the styles of jazz, folk and gypsy jazz from a young age and now performs regularly with some of the top names in UK.

She regularly visits Ireland as a soloist and Japan with various bands and also has an excellent reputation as a recording artist. Bands such as K-Passa, Moonflowers and The Scoville Units are just a few bands Gina has sprinkled her magic on as well as entrancing audiences with her solo material.

Vicki Burke said: “I’ve played in the Festival in Devizes with Flash Harry and more recently with my jazz duo at The Southgate.

“Devizes has a great music scene, it’s going to be a lot of fun on Saturday and it’s such a great pub to play in.”

Music is due to start at the Southgate Inn at 9pm on Saturday and admission is free.
