FANS who have followed the career of punk music’s ‘Dark Lord’ Hugh Cornwell will not want to miss out when he performs in Chippenham, close to his home in Box, this autumn.
Mr Cornwell will be performing at The Neeld on October 20, in a show featuring songs spanning the entire career of someone considered one of the UK’s finest song-writing talents and accomplished live performers.
Before becoming a solo artist, he was the original guitarist, singer and main songwriter in The Stranglers. During his 16 years in the British punk/rock band, he enjoyed many successes including 10 hit albums and 21 Top Forty singles. In the process he etched himself into Europe and the USA’s musical psyche with classic songs, including Peaches, No More Heroes, Golden Brown, Nice N’ Sleazy, Always the Sun and Duchess.
Mr Cornwell will be performing songs from this part of his musical career at his Chippenham show next month. Alongside his classics from The Strangers, he will also be singing some more recent offerings, including new and never before performed songs from his next studio album, Villains.
Mr Cornwell’s last studio album, Totem and Taboo, was released to rave reviews. Recorded at Electrical Audio Studios in Chicago, the album was engineered and mixed by the legendary Steve Albini. Albini has previously worked with many well-known artists, including PJ Harvey, The Frames, and Manic Street Preachers.
More recently, Mr Cornwell has also released a compilation album titled The Fall and Rise of Hugh Cornwell (The best of the solo years).
Hugh Cornwell will play The Neeld, Chippenham on October 20 as part of an acoustic UK tour. Tickets are available from www.neeld.co.uk/event/hugh-cornwell/
