CALVIN Harris has had a busy year.
He’s released a new album, had a clutch of number ones, went down a storm at Radio 1’s Big Weekend at Lydiard Park in May, toured the country and now he’s coming back to Swindon as part of his DJ Set tour.
Not even a dodgy egg sandwich eaten before his iTunes Festival appearance in July - and the food poisoning that followed - could slow down his success.
“I’m only too happy to be busy, to spend days speaking to journalists or promoting my music if the result is someone listening to my album and enjoying it, or even buying it, God forbid,” said the 25-year-old, who is due to perform a set at Liquid and Envy on Sunday night.
“I’m having a great time, although every day it’s relentless, but relentless in a totally good way. I’m not exactly toiling away at the coalface.”
His latest album, Ready For The Weekend, the follow-up to his gold-selling 2007 debut, I Created Disco, came out earlier this year and Calvin was and is delighted with the result.
“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done in my life,” he said with pride.
“I’ve never been happier with anything. It just makes me so happy that it’s going to be in the shops and someone is going to have the chance to buy it. That fills me with happiness and unbridled joy.
“I Created Disco was about compromise. Because I was working with a limited amount of sample space, I had to cut corners.
“If I wanted to put a long crash cymbal in a song, it might mean that I had to sacrifice the second verse and just repeat the first because I’d run out of space on my computer and things like that.
“I don’t have to worry about things like that now. This time around, I was afforded the possibility to make exactly what was in my brain and exactly the record I liked.”
Calvin Harris will be at Liquid and Envy on Sunday night and tickets are still available. Advance tickets cost £10 for standard entry and £20 for VIP. Entry will be £18 on the door.
Doors open at 10pm.
The winners of last week’s competition to see Calvin Harris at Liquid and Envy on Sunday are: Karen Reynolds, James Price, Miss J Long, Victoria Saunders, Amy Findlay, Gemma Collins, Suzannah White, Katie Bond, Kim Tassie and Jonathan Skull.
Congratulations to you all.
