A group of friends from Chippenham have named their new band after the task they have taken on, as they step back on the stage after two decades.
They might be in their early 60s, but Rolling Back The Years will prove they are still young at heart when they perform a set with a 60s theme at Chippenham Sports Club tonight (Friday).
Bassist Andy Parkinson, lead guitarist and vocalist Colin ‘Spike’ Payne, guitarist John Wyatt and DJ Ady Hunt have drummer Ivan Hadlow to thank for the revival. Mr Hadlow, of Allington Way, said: “About 18 months ago I had this little dream that I wanted to get some of the lads back together to have a practice session. Then I thought why not a charity gig. We have been rehearsing hard over the past month or so.”
The band have never actually played together as a group before, although its members frequently came across each other on the musical circuit.
Mr Hadlow said: “We have all been into music since we were young and Andy, myself and Spike used to be on the road every weekend.
“We played all over Wiltshire, Gloucester and Oxford and we are looking forward to getting back out there.”
Tickets for tonight’s gig, which starts at 8pm, are £12 and all proceeds will go to Help For Heroes.
