THE Old Town Bowl hurtles back to the era of ra-ra skirts, rolled up jacket sleeves and brick sized mobile phones on Saturday.

Sonia, Limahl, Hazell Dean and favourite local band Locomotion bring us 80s Night at the Bowl, the next in this year’s summer programme of concerts in the Town Gardens.

Scouser Sonia was one of the most successful Stock, Aitken and Waterman stars, best known for topping the charts with You’ll Never Stop Me Loving You in 1989.

Limahl initially found fame with Kajagoogoo, singing on hits such as Too Shy, Big Apple and Ooh to be Ah.

Later, as a solo singer, he had another major hit with the title song from fantasy film The Never Ending Story.

Hazell Dean also enjoyed major success during the 1980s, thanks to hits such as Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go), Back In My Arms (Once Again) and No Fool (For Love).

Tickets for Saturday’s show, which begins at 6.30pm, cost £15 in advance and £20 on the door, with various concessions available.

On Saturday, July 15, 10cc will be at the Bowl for a concert featuring the hits that made the band one of the best known in the world – songs such as Rubber Bullets, Dreadlock Holiday, I’m Not in Love and The Things We Do For Love.

The following month, on Saturday, August 14, former Mike and the Mechanics vocalist Paul Carrack will be at the Bowl, alongside singer-songwriters Ben Montague, Sarah Gillespie and local performer Theo Altieri.

On Saturday, August 27, The Wiltshire and Swindon Youth Orchestra will give the last of this year’s Bowl Concerts, under the baton of Timothy Redmond, who has been Principal Conductor of the Cambridge Philharmonic since 2006.

The young musicians will be joined by singer Camila Kerslake and local artist Danni Marsh, and the evening will end with a fireworks display.
