Michael King is all shook up as he steps on stage playing the king of rock ‘n’ roll as he feels the adrenaline rush of a dream come true.

He will be bringing the Las Vegas Elvis Icon award winning On Tour With Elvis Show to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on Saturday September 3.

The singer grew up amongst rock ‘n’ roll music as his mum was a keen fan, but it was an Elvis tribute act that lured him away from a successful career as a cabaret singer.

“My home was always filled with the sounds of Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley on my mum’s old record player but it was when I saw my first Elvis tribute at our local theatre that I was hooked.’’ So Michael bought himself some backing tracks, persuaded his wife to make him an Elvis jumpsuit and knuckled down to some serious study to create his own tribute to the king. After watching hours and hours of videos and pulling together a group of musicians who practiced every night, Michael booked the same local theatre that had first inspired him to create the show.

“Man those were the days, I thought I was the bees knees,’’ he said.

“I’ll never forget walking out on stage. I felt like I was Elvis.

“It was an adrenaline rush like no other and yes, I still get that almighty adrenaline rush going on stage every night just like that first show 18 years ago.’’ Over the years Michael has added a touch of Vegas gloss wearing jumpsuits from B and K Enterprises in USA, which are cut from Elvis’ original patterns and adding a brass section, backing singers and special lighting and sound effects to the show.

In 2002 Michael headlined with Elvis’ step-brother, David Stanley, at an Elvis convention in Blackpool and in 2003 he sang with Elvis’ own backing band, The Jordanaires, at the River Palms Casino Resort in the US.

The singer is still passionate about Elvis, believing that he has a song for every occasion.

“Whether it be a celebration or one of life’s many trials, Elvis is always there with the right song,’’ he said.

Fresh from wowing the crowds at London’s 02 Academy, the show comes to Swindon on Saturday.

It will be Viva Los Wyvern with all the glitz in songs such as Hound Dog, Suspicious Minds and In The Ghetto. Tickets are £19 from 01793 524481.
