The two lucky winners, out of hundreds of entries, for our competition to see tenor Alfie Boe in concert are: Maggie Day from Mallard Close in Covingham and Matthew Paterson from Headlands Grove in Swindon.
The winners can see Alfie singing songs from his latest album Bring Him Home when he comes to Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre on January 18, as part of his UK tour.
The internationally-renowned opera singer was a member of the famous D’Oyly Carte Opera Company for a couple of years before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London.
He landed a role in the New York production of La Boheme following a traumatic audition.
Alfie said: “I was at a five-hour Wagner production at the Royal Opera House and I sneaked off during the 40-minute interval and literally ran across Waterloo Bridge to the audition and then ran back afterwards.’’ Following success under the lights of Broadway, Alfie is now an international recording star, performs his own solo concerts, appeared on TV’s Royal Variety Performance as well as starring in productions for the Coliseum and the Royal Opera House in Elektra.
In 2008 he was nominated for two classical Brit awards and, because of his love of rock ‘n’ roll music, he also joined The Clint Boon Experience, becoming the Opera Dude.
''I sneaked off during the 40-minute interval and literally ran across Waterloo Bridge to the audition and then ran back afterwards.’’
